Located in Pasco County, Florida Starkey Ranch is a natural scenic place where the local people make their connections with the amazing wonders of nature, together with the strength of the residential and business communities by calling this fine, true legacy their home. Many homes in this area are found on conservation lots, so the locals don't mind adhering to the rules and regulations about preservation and conservation. For those newcomers looking for the natural scenic beauty together with peace and serenity, then this would be a prime area for a new family home. This is a HUGE upcoming development with over 5000 homes which is planned to include parks, stores, restaurants and much more!
At one time cattle roamed the land free here at the J.B. Starkey Ulmerton Ranch and cowboys spent their days working by ranching. Today, those fine cattle ranches in the area are no longer present due the real estate boom in the 1930's. The land was then sold to the state of Florida, which then preserved half of the property and then designated most of it as Starkey Park.
In the mid 1990's, another 3,500 acres was sold to the Department of Florida Transportation for the construction of the well-known Suncoast Parkway. The current generations today have lost the main interest in cattle ranching. Many people here are extremely dedicated to preservation of the cattle ranching legacy as conservationists. About 2,400 acres has been developed into a very modern and sustainable new urban residential neighborhood.
Now the 2016 Master-Planned Community of the Year (National Association of Home Builders, The Nationals Silver Award), this 2,400 acre community is taking shape with neighborhoods centered on parks and connected by trails. There are already 5 miles of trails, two dog parks, picnic pavilions, a playground for the kids, and plenty of wide open grassy areas for residents to enjoy with their neighbors.
Later this year, the first community pool and splash pad will be complete in Whitfield Park. Next, the first baseball and multi-sport fields will be located in the 90-acre District Park. There are also plans for a K-8 public school, a community gymnasium for shared-use and beautiful community tennis courts. Other planned amenities include a public library and community theater.
The nearby Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park is a huge regional park that is managed by Pasco County and it includes many fine features like paved trails that connects the forty-two mile Suncoast Trail. Many picnic shelters, hiking trails, biking trails and equestrian trails make their home here along with a large campground complete with many camping cabins for the locals and visitors to explore and enjoy.
There are quite a few species of birds, beautiful and unique aquatic plants, like seagrass and a wide variety of popular fish species, like redfish, bass, sea trout, catfish, mullet, and more that make natural habitat here. This large preserve serves as a resting and nesting area for the regional water well field that is operated by the Tampa Bay water district and it remains an essential part of the multi-county supply system that supplies excellent drinking water to the Greater Tampa Bay area. The preserve has beautiful pine flat woods, cypress trees, fresh water marshes, many streams and lake swamps that attract fishermen from near and far.
